FIRE FIGHTERS TRAINING SCHOOL

The first-stage officers are trained at the Department’s professional training institution - the Fire Fighters Training School which in accordance with various training programmes provides not only the basic training but also advancement courses for the SFPRS officers of various stages, and training for district municipality firefighters, the personnel of various enterprises and agencies, which are responsible for the fire and industrial safety and civil protection.

The Fire Fighters Training School's mission is to create the protection and prevention culture, to continuously educate self and others about fire, civil protection and rescue.

The Fire Fighters Training School's vision is to gather and share the theoretical knowledge, to improve the practical capabilities, to carry out and encourage the science-exploratory and methodological activities, and to implement its tasks as defined in School Regulations.

The Fire Fighters Training School is the only educational institution of this kind in Lithuania that prepares qualified and multi-skilled firefighters-rescuers for the Lithuanian Fire Prevention and Rescue Services and Municipal Fire Brigades.

The Fire Fighters Training School prepares about 120 to 200 firefighters-rescuers per year. About 500 SFPRS officers and 2-3 thousand employees of other institutions take part in the advancement courses.

The School also trains and annually certifies divers-rescuers from Lithuanian Fire Prevention and Rescue Services according to the requirements that meet European standards.
The Civil Protection Training Centre of the Fire Fighters Training School organizes civil protection training courses, advancement courses, provides methodical assistance in the sphere of civil protection training to the state and municipal institutions, economic entities and public organizations.

In 2004 the Fire Fighters Training School of the Department became the member of the European Fire Service Colleges Association.

The Vilnius Gediminas Technical University has been training the mid-stage officers for the Lithuanian Fire Prevention and Rescue Service since 1992. Under the agreement between the Department and the Main School of Fire Service in Warsaw the latter prepares fire protection specialists for Lithuania. Annually two officers with a good command of the Polish language are sent to the above-mentioned School.
