Future-Proofing Civil Protection: Innovative Firefighter Training and Crisis Response Scenarios

From March 16–25, intensive civil protection training took place for individuals assigned to crisis management and/or civil protection functions. This program brought together representatives from state and municipal institutions, economic entities, and social service providers seeking to deepen their knowledge of emergency preparedness.

During the training, special emphasis was placed on innovative learning tools. The SAFAR (Situational Awareness Training of Firefighters within an Immersive XR Training Site) project, in which the Firefighters Training School participates, was presented during the meeting. The aim of this project is to improve the training of firefighters and rescuers through advanced digital technologies. In the SAFAR project, a safe learning environment is created using XR technologies (Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality), allowing trainees to learn how to manage hazardous situations without experiencing them in reality.

Guests had the opportunity not only to familiarize themselves with the developed virtual reality training scenarios but also to see firsthand how modern solutions can be effectively applied in the preparation of professional firefighters and rescuers.

During the meeting with the course participants, the latest training scenarios for rapid crisis response were presented in detail. The presented scenarios cover areas requiring quick orientation and precise actions:

  • Vehicle Fire: A detailed analysis of actions to take when a fire breaks out in a vehicle. Specialists emphasized not only extinguishing techniques but also passenger safety and public notification.
  • Radiation Hazard: A response algorithm for radiation threats was developed. During the training, the correct ways to isolate premises, use personal protective equipment, and follow official information were discussed.
  • Population Evacuation: A plan was presented to ensure smooth movement and assistance for the most vulnerable groups.
  • "Emergency Bag" (Go Bag): How to properly assemble a kit of essential items so that residents are prepared to survive the first 72 hours during a critical moment.

According to civil protection specialists, preparedness begins with knowledge. Continuous improvement of scenarios allows services to operate in a synchronized manner, while residents feel safer knowing that the city has a clear action plan for any scenario.

"Our goal is to turn theoretical safety requirements into instinctive actions that help avoid panic and save lives," the instructors emphasized during the meeting.
