SAFAR project presented to Vilnius civil protection specialists

March 23, 2026 Representatives of the Firefighters Training School visited the Civil Protection Division of the Vilnius Fire and Rescue Board under the Fire and Rescue Department (PAGD). The purpose of the meeting was not only to share accumulated experience but also to present a world-class innovation the "SAFAR" project.

The primary goal of the SAFAR project (Situational Awareness Training of Firefighters within an immersive XR training site) is to modernize the training of firefighters and civil protection specialists using Extended Reality (XR) technologies.

Experts from Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, the Netherlands, and Cyprus have joined forces to create a safe, effective, and cost-efficient learning environment.

During the meeting, the project activities and developed training scenarios were presented in detail to the Vilnius civil protection staff:

  • Actions in the event of a vehicle fire;
  • Response to radiation hazards;
  • Safe evacuation of residents;
  • Assembling an emergency "go-bag."

The visit didn't stop there it also included a creative highlight.

To spread the word about the project as widely as possible, a special podcast was recorded. Several board members participated, sharing their insights on civil protection challenges and the benefits the SAFAR project brings to their daily work.
